What you get: 2 FRESH (not frozen) birds per pickup. One bird is whole and one bird will be portioned into: 2 wings, two breasts, two legs (with thighs attached) and the back.
Our birds average 4.5lb per bird (we record the individual weights of chicken you receive over the course of your share so that we can be as close as possible to the total estimate)
Optional add-on: The innerds (for the more adventurous cook or for your four-legged friends). This will include: neck, heart and liver. $10/pickup ($70 additional per share)
Your share must be picked up on 7 SPECIFIC pickup days listed below, for a total of 14 birds.
WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF A SHARE??
With the purchase of your CSA, we are now a team, where Henny Penny is raising YOUR chickens. Henny Penny then can portion a bird for you rather than only selling it whole. Also, you are guaranteed fresh (not frozen) chicken (provided you make your scheduled pickup). And finally, you don’t miss out on chicken, probably the most popular meat we sell. We will have a few extra birds but certainly not enough to meet demand.
PRICE: Our whole chickens are $7.75/lb, our portioned chickens are $8.75/lb. Your share is based on $8.25/lb for 14 birds averaging 4.5lb each. The 1-payment, no-innards share costs $520.

FAQs:
“I can’t pay all of that at once. Is there another option?”
Yes, you can purchase your share with two installments plus a $30 surcharge, making a total of $550 without innards and $620 with innards). If you choose the installment plan you will go through checkout here online without payment and then we will call you to take your credit card details over the phone. The second payment will be automatically run on the same credit card on June 3. (see description for exact charge amounts)
“I won’t eat that much chicken that quickly, how can this work for me?”
We package your chicken in a plastic shrink bag. So, if you cannot consume your chicken within 2 days, we recommend placing it directly in your freezer. It will be good that way for months.
“Could you portion both of my birds each week?”
Unfortunately, portioning birds takes quite a bit more time. We currently do not have the bandwidth to portion out both birds part of your share this year but give us your feedback so that we can continue to build our program to serve you to the best of our ability!
“What is the difference between your birds and what I get in the supermarket?”
You will notice a few things different about our birds. First, the appearance. They are different breeds, developed to grow slower than your typical supermarket chicken. With that slower growth comes more activity foraging the pasture and therefore more flavor. You might notice more equal distribution between white and dark meat as well (the supermarket chickens were developed to have primarily white meat). And finally, if you make stock from your carcass (and you should!), you will find it has a much richer color and thicker (more gelatinous) texture than stock made from your average supermarket chicken. Why? Because these birds are so much more nutrient dense, due to all that they have consumed over the course of their life. They truly are what they eat! Freeze all of this stock and it will sustain you over the cold winter months when cold and flu season runs its course around you.
