In July the cut flower gardens really started to produce and provide armloads of cut flowers on a daily basis.
The month started with the Sweet Peas hitting their stride.
And then there were the deep, moody bouquets that could almost be considered autumnal.
And then more mixed bouquets.
Then we moved into the hot party colors of late-July.
And now I have a lot of the giant wine zinnias but with the recent heat and humidity hitting us here in the Northeast, I just want to cool off. And my new favorite flower has just come into bloom: Ammi ‘Dara’. It’s the usual lacy Ammi majus flowers but in a range of pinks to burgundy depending on when you pick the flower. I combined the Ammi with Zinnia ‘Queen Lime Red’, the seed pods of Nigella, and the purple frothy dots of Verbena bonariensis. And the result, is a refreshing cool display on this first day of August. Enjoy!
